Senior 5G Modem Development Engineer
will be responsible for end-to-end modem feature development, optimization, and validation across multiple Motorola products targeting the
North America and India markets
. The person will collaborate closely with global cross-functional teams including system design, RF, validation, carrier certification, and chipset partners to ensure best-in-class modem performance, reliability, and compliance with regional requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- 5G Modem Development Integration
- Lead design, development, and integration of 5G/4G modem features for Motorola smartphone platforms.
- Ensure smooth modem bring-up, debugging, and feature verification across global and regional SKUs.
- Collaborate with chipset vendors (e.g., Qualcomm, MediaTek) for feature enablement, software updates, and performance tuning.
- Network Carrier Support (NA India)
- Support operator-specific configurations, validations, and issue resolution for North American carriers and India carriers .
- Analyze network logs and KPIs to identify and resolve interoperability and performance issues.
- Work with certification teams to support GCF/PTCRB, operator acceptance, and field testing activities.
- Debugging Optimization
- Conduct deep-dive analysis of modem logs (QXDM, QCAT, etc.) to identify root causes of failures.
- Drive optimizations for throughput, latency, mobility, call stability, and power efficiency.
- Proactively work on RF scenarios, handover failures, and data call reliability improvements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with product software, hardware, and test teams to deliver robust modem functionality.
- Coordinate with global engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and validation across regions.
- Support end-user test pilots and field feedback resolution related to modem performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Bachelors degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, or Computer Engineering.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in 4G/5G modem development, integration, or validation.
- Strong understanding of 3GPP standards (LTE, NR, NAS, RRC, PDCP, RLC, MAC, PHY).
- Experience with Qualcomm or MediaTek modem platforms.
- Proficiency with log analysis tools such as QXDM, QCAT, Wireshark, and QSPR.
- Strong debugging skills and ability to drive issues to closure across multiple teams.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills for cross-region collaboration.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting carrier certification for NA or India operators.
- Familiarity with VoNR/VoLTE, Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS), and 5G SA/NSA call flows.
- Exposure to modem power profiling and optimization.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, global product development environment.
- Experience with Python scripting or automation tools for modem validation is a plus.
