Job Description

Job Summary:

The SQL Database Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and securing SQL Server databases. This role ensures database availability, performance, and reliability while supporting development and business teams through effective data management and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server databases
Monitor database performance, perform tuning, and optimize queries
Implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability
Manage database security, including user roles, permissions, and auditing
Perform regular maintenance tasks such as indexing, statistics updates, and integrity checks
Troubleshoot database issues, including connectivity, performance, and locking problems
Automate routine tasks using T-SQL or PowerShell scripts
Collaborate with developers for database design, stored procedures, and query optimization
Ensure compliance with data privacy and regulatory requirements
Maintain database documentation and standard operating procedures

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
3+ years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator
Proficient in SQL Server installation, configuration, and maintenance
Strong knowledge of T-SQL, backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning
Experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Profiler, and Agent Jobs
Familiarity with database security and access control best practices
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or MCSA: SQL Server
Experience with cloud-based SQL databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, etc.)
Knowledge of high availability (HA), replication, and Always On configurations
Familiarity with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Redgate, or SentryOne
Exposure to Agile/DevOps environments and CI/CD for databases
