Senior Staff Nurse

Role & responsibilities

1. Clinical Care & Patient Management

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care for patients undergoing fertility treatment, including IVF, IUI, ICSI, and FET.
  
• Administer and educate patients on fertility medications and self-injection techniques.
  
• Perform and interpret routine observations, including ultrasound monitoring support, blood tests, and cycle tracking.
  
• Assist clinicians during procedures such as egg collection, embryo transfer, and intrauterine insemination.
  
• Monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications (e.g., OHSS) and respond appropriately.
  

Patient Support & Education

• Provide emotional and psychological support to individuals and couples throughout their fertility journey.
  
• Explain complex IVF procedures clearly and compassionately.
  
• Offer counselling referrals where needed and ensure continuity of care across cycles.
  
• Ensure patients are fully informed and have given appropriate consent for treatments.
  

Leadership & Supervision

• Supervise and support junior nurses, healthcare assistants, and trainees.
  
• Act as a clinical resource for staff and help maintain high nursing standards within the IVF unit.
  
• Assist in rota management and day-to-day team coordination when required.

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in compliance with local and national fertility regulations (e.g., HFEA in the UK).
  
• Ensure all consent forms, patient records, and treatment documentation are completed correctly and stored securely.
  
• Participate in audits, incident reporting, and quality assurance programs.
  

Operational & Administrative Duties

• Use IVF-specific software systems to manage patient records, appointments, treatment schedules, and medication charts.
  
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams including consultants, embryologists, counsellors, and administrative staff.
  
• Support stock control and ensure all necessary clinical equipment and medications are available and stored correctly.
