About The Team
As a Sr. Software Engineer within the Walmart Merchant DS team, you will be responsible for architecting and building orchestration solutions that support real-time, offline, and batch processing for AI, machine learning, and data-driven workloads. Youll collaborate closely with the DS teams to deliver robust, scalable, and user-friendly infrastructure that streamlines the development and deployment of models.
What Youll Do
- Work with AI/ML and data science project teams to provide deep expertise in software engineering, parallel computing, and big data tools
- Help to guide the AI/ML Platform Engineering teams efforts based on first-hand experience on projects using our tools
- Work with partners in data platform, general computing, and similar teams to ensure the AI/ML org has the data, computing resources, and workflows/abstractionsneeded to do our best work
- Be part of the team responsible for helping deliver an enterprise-grade AI-driven data and messaging platform
- Help run our ML/AI infrastructure with tools like VertexAI, Element and k8s.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure-as-code (IaC)
- Help deliver next-level metrics, monitoring, visualization, and alert tooling to give Data Scientists, Developers, QA Engineers and SREs deep visibility into the health of the services across all environments
- Assist the rest of Production Engineering in protecting the health of the Production environment
- Work with the QA/TestEng and SRE teams to make the deployment process as efficient and boring as possible
- Work with architects to implement the baseline technologies, policies, and practices to build a high-velocity, high-security, strong compliance platform that allows scaling to support exponential growth
- Debug issues across environments, services, and tools
- Establish strong relationships with other teams in order to positively influence them in their pursuit of automation and toil reduction, and to keep the rest of our team apprised of upcoming initiatives
What Youll Bring
- Bachelor&aposs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in ML Ops, data engineering, or a related field
- Experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-Learn
- Python Expertise: A deep understanding of Python and its principles, with the ability to apply them effectively. Python will be your primary language, with some use of JavaScript.
- Code Quality Leadership: Responsible for code reviews and setting high code quality standards for the team.
- Architectural Design Experience: Demonstrated experience in leading architecture design.
- ML Pipeline Expertise: Extensive knowledge and experience in building scalable, distributed end-to-end machine learning pipelines and services.
- Technical Proficiency: Highly skilled in the technologies we use and learn daily, including API Design, scaling applications, distributed systems, Python (ML, APIs, workflows), Cloud Platforms (Azure, GCP), Kubernetes, Kafka, Airflow, and SQL.
- Software Engineering Fundamentals: Strong foundation in software engineering/API design fundamentals, with the ability to write production code when needed.
- Intellectual Curiosity: A passion for GenAI, MLOps, and cloud technologies, and a desire to stay current with advancements in the field.
