Job Description

Position: Senior Research Fellow (SRF)

Project:

Role Overview

The Senior Research Fellow will contribute to the Open Knowledge Ecosystem for Indian Languages under the SciWIKI project. The role involves research, content development, and technical support for creating and enriching scientific knowledge in Telugu and Hindi on Wikimedia platforms using open-source tools and technologies.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Create and curate scientific articles in Telugu and Hindi on Wiki platforms (Wikipedia, Wikisource, etc.)
Conduct research on scientific terminology, translation, and contextual adaptation in Indian languages
Collaborate with linguists, domain experts, and Wikimedia communities
Support metadata creation, multilingual documentation, and knowledge structuring
Organize and assist with workshops, edit-a-thons, and outreach activities
Contribute to project reports, research papers, and dissemination of outcomes

Preferred Candidate Profile

Educational Qualification:

Master’s degree (B.Tech/M.Sc./M.Tech) in Linguistics, Indian Languages, Digital Humanities, Computer Science, or related disciplines
Minimum of 2 years of post-master’s research experience
NET/GATE qualification mandatory

Language Skills:

Strong proficiency in Telugu and Hindi (reading, writing, and typing)

Technical Skills:

Programming:
Python, PHP
Platforms & Tools:
MediaWiki, Wikidata APIs, QuickStatements, SPARQL
Other Tools:
Git, Markdown, basic web development, data cleaning & transformation
Familiarity with open-source technologies and collaborative publishing platforms
