Senior Principal Software Engineer - Progress 4GL

As an Expert Software Engineer specializing in Progress/OpenEdge, you will play a crucial role in leading the modernization of core ERP systems through architectural innovation, deep reverse engineering, and strategic integration efforts. Your responsibilities will involve identifying systemic issues in legacy Progress ERP components, architecting scalable redesigns, and reverse-engineering legacy logic to address technical debt and performance bottlenecks. Additionally, you will be tasked with implementing resilient, modular integrations with external systems such as finance platforms, logistics providers, and data pipelines. Furthermore, in this high-impact, cross-functional role, you will serve as a technical advisor and working lead, coaching engineers across multiple teams to accelerate team maturity. You will also champion next-generation engineering practices including CI/CD pipelines, AI-assisted development tools, and automated testing frameworks. Collaboration with enterprise architects, QA, DevOps, and Product teams to drive architectural consistency and innovation will be a key aspect of your role. Moreover, you will co-lead the development of a new Engineering center in Pune, India, emphasizing the establishment of best practices and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. To be successful in this position, you should possess 12+ years of experience in Progress/OpenEdge ABL, with a track record of modernizing legacy systems. Your expertise in redesigning complex ERP applications and integrations, along with your ability to lead architectural initiatives, will be essential. Experience with enterprise-grade system integrations through APIs, custom middleware, or messaging systems is highly valued, as is your proficiency in coaching engineers to operate at higher levels of autonomy and quality. Preferred technical skills include knowledge of Progress/OpenEdge ABL, JavaScript, REST APIs, along with tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, GitHub Copilot, and JIRA. Proficiency in methodologies like Agile, CI/CD, architectural reviews, and automated testing is also beneficial.
