Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

As a Lead Power Electronics Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and validation of high-reliability power conversion systems for locomotives, including AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, inverters, and motor drives. You will partner with global engineering centers and provide technical mentorship to local teams, guide project planning-execution and ensure delivery of innovative, safe, and efficient solutions. This position offers an opportunity to broaden your technical expertise while staying at the forefront of emerging technologies in the rail industry.

JOB DUTIES:

1. Manage engineering teams and activities to achieve organizational goals, foster professional growth, and drive continuous improvement. Mentor and coach junior engineers, promoting technical excellence and collaboration.

2. Write system and component-level requirements and specifications aligned with stakeholder needs.

3. Architect and design power conversion topologies and develop hardware for AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, inverters, and motor drive systems.

4. Prepare power, control, and communication schematics for locomotive systems.

5. Size and select semiconductor devices, capacitors, inductors, and sensors for optimal performance. Design gate driver circuits and implement robust protection mechanisms.

6. Perform circuit and system simulations (LTspice, PSIM or MATLAB/Simulink), loss/efficiency modeling, and worstcase analysis.

7. Carry out DFMEA, reliability assessments (derating, MTBF), and component stress analysis.

8. Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, and software teams for system-level integration. Interface traction and auxiliary systems with microprocessor-based control systems.

9. Ensure compliance with international standards (IEC, IEEE, EN) and customer-specific specifications. Maintain adherence to electrical safety norms and locomotive-specific requirements.

10. Prepare detailed design documentation, test reports, and compliance certifications.

11. Define test and validation protocols, support prototype testing in lab and on locomotive.

12. Manage program increments, sprint execution, and iterative delivery. Promote agile best practices across teams.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Required:

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
  • Preferred:

    Master’s degree in Power Electronics.
  • Experience:

10 - 15 years of progressive experience in power electronics design and development. Hands-on expertise with simulation tools (PSIM, LTspice, MATLAB/Simulink). Candidates with prior experience in the rollingstock or industrial sector preferable.
