Job Description

As a Senior Design Engineer in the Aerospace Industry at our in-house Product Development Centre specializing in designing, developing, engineering, and manufacturing indigenous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), your role will involve aerostructure design to support the research and development of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). You will have the opportunity to create new designs from scratch or re-design existing products, guiding them through all stages of design & development, testing, certification, until the final handover to production. Key Responsibilities: - Conceptualize and develop designs for various aerostructure components such as wings, fuselage, tail, landing gear, and mechanical systems like thermal management, actuation mechanisms, etc. - Identify and propose design solutions for new components or modifications to existing ones, considering factors like loading, materials, quality, manufacturability, cost, and serviceability. - Gain exposure to different kinds and types of Aerospace materials and manufacturing processes. - Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings and other engineering documentation, preferably adhering to GD&T ANSI 14.5 standards. - Develop DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) for complex aerostructure parts, sub-assemblies, and complete airframe assemblies, and implement the outcomes into Design and Manufacturing processes. - Implement Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Serviceability and Maintainability to mature the design at an early stage of development. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, and manufacturing, to develop and integrate systems. - Support the design, development, and testing of rigs and prototypes. - Manage the configuration of aircraft structures. - Use standardized technology/process/tool choices for continuously improving reliability, predictability, and usability. - Keep up to date with the latest materials, manufacturing technologies, and methodologies. - Provide guidance and support to junior team members technically. - Ensure designs meet safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., CEMILAC/DGCA/MIL, etc.). Skills & Qualifications: - Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering. - Strong experience in Structure design, Mechanisms Materials, and Manufacturing processes. - 10 to 15 years of industry experience in a Design Engineer role. - Exposure in Aerospace/UAS design and development will be preferred. - Hands-on experience with aerospace CAD software tools, preferably Creo, and PLM tools, preferably Windchill. - Familiarity with regulatory compliance and standards in the aerospace industry. - Ability to carry out hand calculations based on functional requirements and deliver innovative solutions. - Experience with metallic, composite, and plastic materials.
