Job Description

Role Overview: As a Scientist at U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP), you will be a vital part of the team responsible for the oversight and successful implementation of activities related to a portfolio of Reference Standards (RS)/Analytical Reference Materials (ARMs). Your role will involve tasks such as preparing procurement specifications, testing protocols, and summary reports, providing technical assistance to collaborating labs, and ensuring the availability of high-quality reference standards. Additionally, you will play a key role in supporting the public health mission of USP by contributing to the development of quality standards for medicines and supplements. Key Responsibilities: - Responsible for timely preparation of testing protocols for new/replacement reference materials and providing technical assistance to collaborating labs. - Review analytical data received from collaborators, prepare summary reports, packaging, and QC testing instructions, and assign re-test intervals. - Maintain scheduling operations, necessary documents, and accurate information to ensure availability of reference standards. - Coordinate with labs, review and interpret data from international collaborative studies, and provide guidance on test data interpretation. - Support the Documentary Standard team through peer review of draft monographs and engage in conversations about reference standards issues. - Address general customer technical inquiries, investigate complaints, and present information to internal and external audiences. - Facilitate cross-functional activities with other departmental staff and perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required: For Scientist IV: - MSc in chemistry or related field with 8-10 years of experience OR Ph.D. in chemistry or related field with 3-5 years of experience. - Hands-on experience in interpreting results, characterizing compounds through spectral techniques, and knowledge of chromatographic techniques. - Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and excellent written and verbal communication skills. For Scientist III: - MSc in chemistry or related field with 6-8 years of experience OR Ph.D. in chemistry or related field with 1-3 years of experience. - Similar skills as Scientist IV including hands-on experience with spectral techniques and chromatographic techniques. - Additional desired preferences include the ability to read and interpret spectroscopic analyses data, experience with materials characterization, lab investigations, and stability studies exposure.
