Job Description

You will be responsible for designing, developing, assembling, testing, and commissioning cutting-edge instruments for astronomy in a challenging environment. The work culture will be innovative and creative, requiring high dedication and motivation. Your main job responsibilities will include: 1. Designing and developing optical systems for instruments within the lab 2. Collaborating with other agencies such as ISRO and industries involved in design and development 3. Participating in and organizing reviews and discussions 4. Managing procurement processes from vendors, fabricators, and industries in coordination with IUCAA administration 5. Developing, testing, debugging, characterizing, and delivering components 6. Creating bubble diagrams and inspection reports 7. Participating in the assembly, integration, and testing of subsystems and full instruments at laboratory facilities in IUCAA and other locations in the country 8. Quickly acquiring new skills as required 9. Being willing to work beyond regular office hours and handle other related tasks in the instrumentation laboratory and collaborating centers/institutions. To be eligible for this position, you should have a B.Tech. / B.E. in Mechanical or allied areas with two years of relevant work experience or an M.E. with one year of relevant work experience. The ideal candidate should possess the following skill sets: - Opto-mechanical design and optimization - 3D model development - Finite Element Analysis (static, dynamic, thermal, thermostatic, etc.) of models - Developing 2D drawings for fabrication following GD&T standards - Aligning and assembling optics/optomechanical systems for imaging/spectroscopy applications - Simulating and testing mechanical systems, including thermal analysis - Using the latest test and measurement tools in mechanical engineering - Proficiency in design software such as SolidWorks is essential - Familiarity with COMSOL, NX Nastran, etc., will be beneficial - Ability to work with CAD and Simulation tools like AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor - Software programming skills in Python or similar languages will be advantageous - Experience with astronomical imaging systems will be considered a plus.
