Job Description Job Title: School Librarian Department: Non Teaching Reports to: Principal Type of position: Permanent Location: Thane Job Description: The School Librarian is responsible for managing the schools library resources, promoting literacy, supporting curriculum needs, and fostering a love for reading and research among students and staff. The librarian serves as both an instructional partner and an information specialist, ensuring access to a wide range of print and digital resources.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Library Management: • Organize, catalog, and maintain library materials (books, periodicals, digital media). • Implement library policies and procedures for circulation and resource use. • Maintain an inviting, safe, and inclusive library environment.
2. Instruction & Curriculum Support: • Collaborate with teachers to support classroom learning and integrate library resources into lessons. • Teach students information literacy, research skills, and responsible digital citizenship. • Encourage independent reading and guide students in selecting age appropriate resources.
3. Resource Development: • Select, acquire, and manage diverse resources that support the curriculum and student interests. • Maintain an up-to-date collection of both physical and digital resources. • Utilize technology and online platforms to enhance learning opportunities.
4. Student & Staff Engagement: • Organize reading programs, book clubs, author visits, and literacy events. • Provide support and training for staff in using library and digital tools. • Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.
5. Administration & Professional Duties: • Prepare budgets, manage library records, and report usage statistics. • Ensure compliance with copyright laws and ethical use of information. • Stay current with educational trends, technology, and library practices.

Work Experience: Minimum three to eight years experience. Education Qualification: • Bachelors degree in Library Science, Information Studies, Education, or related field (Master’s degree preferred). • Certification in school librarianship (as required by local/state regulations). • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. • Proficiency in library management systems and digital learning tools. • Passion for literacy, education, and student development.
