Job Description

Role Summary
SAP RAP is responsible for owning the end-to-end strategy, architecture, and governance of SAP S/4HANA extensions built using the RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP). This role blends deep technical expertise, people leadership, delivery accountability, and client-facing responsibilities.The incumbent drives clean-core principles, cloud-ready ABAP development, and future-proof SAP extensions aligned with SAP BTP and S/4HANA roadmap.Key Responsibilities1. Architecture & Technical Leadership

Define enterprise-grade RAP architecture for S/4HANA (On-Premise, Private Cloud, Public Cloud).
Establish standards for:

Managed & unmanaged RAP scenarios
Behavior definitions and implementations
Draft handling, locking, and authorization
OData V4 exposure and Fiori Elements integration

Ensure compliance with Clean Core, ABAP Cloud, and SAP extensibility guidelines.
Guide migration from classic ABAP, BOPF, and SEGW OData to RAP.

2. Delivery & Program Management

Own delivery for large, multi-track SAP programs using RAP-based extensions.
Manage release planning, risk mitigation, performance tuning, and quality assurance.
Review and approve technical designs, code reviews, and solution blueprints.
Ensure on-time, on-budget delivery with high quality benchmarks.

3. Client & Stakeholder Engagement

Act as technical advisor and trusted partner for senior client stakeholders.
Translate business requirements into scalable RAP-based solutions.
Support pre-sales activities:

Solution strategy
Effort estimation
RFP/RFI responses
Client demos and PoCs

Participate in steering committees and architecture governance boards.

4. Team & Capability Building

Build RAP competency frameworks, learning paths, and certification plans.
Conduct internal trainings on:

RAP
ABAP Cloud
SAP BTP integration

Drive succession planning and talent retention.

5. Innovation & Transformation

Drive adoption of:

SAP Fiori Elements
RAP + SAP BTP (Workflows, Events, CAP integration)
Event-driven and API-first architectures

Evaluate emerging SAP technologies and recommend adoption.
Define reusable frameworks, accelerators, and best practices.

Mandatory Technical Skills

10-18+ years of SAP ABAP experience.
Strong hands-on expertise in:

RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP)
CDS Views, Behavior Definitions, EML
OData V4 and Fiori Elements

Strong understanding of:

S/4HANA extensibility concepts
ABAP Cloud restrictions
SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP)

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
