As a Cook at Salem Hospital, you will be working under the direction of the Chef to enhance your training in the Culinary Arts. Your responsibilities will include basic and advanced food preparation, preparing cafeteria and patient entrees, starches, vegetables, and all other items on the menu. You will be assisting the Chef and Senior Cook in food preparation and following the instructions of the Assistant Manager of Operations. It is essential that you can read and understand recipes, prepare various food items independently, and ensure that all dishes are both nutritious and visually appealing. In addition to assisting in the preparation of cafeteria menu items, you will also be involved in food preparation for hospital staff and guests at special events. This will involve assembling and garnishing display trays with food items. You may be required to work on the patient tray line or operate the cafeteria grill as needed. Proficiency in using quick chill and re-therm equipment is necessary. Maintaining the cleanliness of food preparation surfaces on a regular basis is also part of your responsibilities. Basic computer skills are required, which can be acquired through on-the-job training. Ideally, you should have three years of experience as a cook or five years in food preparation and Culinary Arts. A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. This is a full-time position at Salem Hospital with 40 standard hours per week on a rotating shift schedule.
