Role Overview: As a PartTime Residential Mortgage Loan Underwriter Consultant at JazzX AI, you will leverage your deep expertise in underwriting to contribute to the development of AI technology supporting mortgage underwriting activities. Your collaboration with engineering and product teams will be instrumental in translating real-world underwriting decisions into robust AI logic. Key Responsibilities: - Underwriting & File Assessment - Underwrite various types of residential mortgage loan files (purchase, rate-term refinance, cash-out refinance) following Fannie Mae DU and Freddie Mac LP guidelines. - Clearly document underwriting rationale, risk profiles, and exception handling. - Process Mapping & Rule Development - Deconstruct end-to-end underwriting workflows, identifying critical decision points and edge cases essential for AI modeling. - Develop AI logic by mapping borrower qualification, income/asset verification, AUS findings, and final approval. - Model Validation & Feedback - Conduct blind tests of AI-generated underwriting recommendations against manual assessments. - Provide detailed feedback to engineering teams to refine decision rules and confidence thresholds. - Knowledge Transfer & Training - Create actionable guides on complex topics like compensating factors, manual AUS overrides, and GSE compliance. - Conduct virtual workshops or Q&A sessions to transfer domain knowledge to cross-functional teams. Qualifications Required: - Experience: 5-10 years in residential mortgage underwriting at a senior or specialist level. - GSE Mastery: In-depth knowledge of Fannie Mae DU and/or Freddie Mac LP guidelines. - Analytical Acumen: Ability to assess borrower credit, income, assets, and collateral accurately and consistently. - Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills to articulate underwriting logic and decision processes. - Consulting Approach: Comfortable in an iterative environment, providing structured feedback to product and engineering teams.
