Job Description

The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) for the Emergency Department plays a pivotal role in providing timely and efficient medical care to patients presenting in the emergency setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide immediate medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients presenting to the Emergency Department
  • Conduct thorough medical examinations and order diagnostic tests as necessary to determine the severity and nature of patients conditions
  • Administer appropriate emergency interventions, including resuscitation procedures, to stabilize critically ill or injured patients
  • Collaborate with consultants, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients requiring admission or transfer to specialized units
  • Monitor patients progress, response to treatment, and vital signs throughout their stay in the Emergency Department
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient medical records, including examination findings, treatment provided, and discharge instructions
  • Participate in regular departmental meetings, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of emergency medical services
  • Provide guidance and support to junior medical staff, interns, and nursing personnel working in the Emergency Department
  • Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and guidelines regarding patient care, safety, infection control, and medical ethics
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing medical education, training, and certification activities
Qualifications and Skills
  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution
  • Valid medical license to practice as a Resident Medical Officer
  • Completion of internship and residency training in emergency medicine or relevant specialty
  • Prior experience working in emergency departments or acute care settings preferred
  • Strong clinical skills in emergency assessment, resuscitation, and management of medical and surgical emergencies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, prioritize tasks, and make quick and sound clinical decisions
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care, professionalism, and ethical conduct
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
