Job Description

The Department of Health Sciences at York Trials Unit (YTU) is looking for a Statistician at Grade 6 to join their team of medical statisticians. YTU is renowned for its expertise in designing and analyzing randomised controlled trials and is seeking to expand due to its continued success. As a Statistician at Grade 6, you will be a part of the Trials and Statistics Group, working closely with Professor Catherine Hewitt, who leads the quantitative analysis within the Unit. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a multi-disciplinary Department that is committed to policy relevant research and known for its methodological expertise. YTU is a UKCRC registered trials unit that conducts national and international trials in various areas such as surgery, mental health, musculoskeletal disorders, social care, education, and public health. They are seeking an enthusiastic individual who can contribute to trial design and analysis, collaborate on research projects, grant applications, and create impact within the field. The ideal candidate should have a first-degree (2:1 or above) in a relevant quantitative subject, along with a higher degree in a relevant quantitative subject such as medical statistics or equivalent experience. They should possess knowledge of statistical techniques and methodologies, experience in designing and analyzing data from randomised controlled trials, and the ability to engage in high-quality research. Key responsibilities of the role include conducting statistical analysis of trials and research studies, performing statistical programming for data manipulation and analysis, providing statistical expertise throughout research studies, contributing to research publications, and assisting in the development of research proposals. Applicants should have experience in programming using software packages like SPSS, Stata, SAS, R, or similar statistical packages, as well as experience in independent and collaborative research, writing up research for publication, and analyzing data from randomised trials.
