Job Description

The position is based at the Centre for Cancer Immunology at Southampton General Hospital, which has a rich history of immunology and cancer research spanning 40 years. This centre is the first dedicated cancer immunology center in the UK, conducting activities ranging from fundamental discovery science to clinical trials. It is equipped with world-class research facilities, including advanced laboratories and a clinical trials unit. You will be associated with the research program of Professors Ward and Ober, focusing on developing novel antibody-based therapeutics. Their work has led to multiple therapeutics currently in late-stage clinical trials or approved for use. Additionally, the group pioneers advanced microscopy techniques for assessing new therapeutics in cellular environments. Funding for their research comes from prestigious organizations like the Wellcome Trust and Cancer Research UK, as well as collaborations with biopharma companies. As the successful candidate, you should be highly motivated to tackle the challenges of understanding biological processes and developing engineered antibodies for cancer and autoimmune diseases. A strong background in cellular techniques related to immunology and/or antibodies, such as flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy, is essential. Experience with in vitro cellular assays and mouse disease models is advantageous. Applicants must have scientific knowledge equivalent to a PhD level, along with relevant academic qualifications, work experience, and proficient IT skills. The position is initially for two years, with potential funding for extension. Candidates nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification are encouraged to apply, and upon completion, the title of Research Fellow will be granted. For informal inquiries, please contact Professor E. Sally Ward at E.S.Ward@soton.ac.uk. The university is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, welcoming applications from all backgrounds. The application deadline is 11.59 pm GMT, and assistance can be sought from Recruitment at +44(0)2380 592750 or recruitment@soton.ac.uk.,
