Research Chemist

Objectives of the position: Laboratory chemist who will re-synthesize or re-prepare research compounds under the guidance of an Assistant Manager with complete adherence to all BASF rules and regulations. 2. Representative Main tasks: (1) Safety: Ensure compliance with safety norms as per BCIPL Lab Safety manual, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Process Safety Manual and all Responsible Care guidelines. Reading MSDS for all reagents/solvents prior to ordering & setting-up of the reaction and discussing the same with Manager for any safety hazards. Demonstrate a proactive behavior in safety and actively drive safe behavior. Reporting more genuine unsafe condition to increase safety awareness & keeping good housekeeping of fume hoods. Any issue/incident (even if there is a doubt on safety relatedness) needs to be discussed with the concerned Manager (or his/her deputy) as and when it happens and reported appropriately. Compliance with corrective actions in safety incident reports (2) Project management: Re-preparation of compounds for the project: Understand the starting materials, synthetic scheme and reaction conditions provided by the supervisor (Assistant Manager), discuss with supervisor (Assistant Manager), before starting a reaction, discuss the monitoring of the reaction & on how to analyze final compound and then perform chemical reaction to achieve the target molecule(s) (as Batch 2 or Batch 3 these compounds are already prepared in the group and/or Batch 1 with previous utilized known chemistry methods) and hand over it to the supervisor (Assistant Manager). Proactively contribute scientifically and in lab (by performing reactions) in running projects under the supervision of Assistant manager. Chemical Reaction planning & implementation. Precise ELN documentation and lab notebook as per the protocol agreed upon with the supervisor. Effective to & fro communication with stake holders such as Assistant Manger, Managers, Team leads, Analytical team, Procurement etc to timely address & resolve the issues. Ensure confidentiality of all research activities as per communicated protocols. (3) Additional Responsibilities in lab: Support in maintaining the instruments & chemicals inventory to the best possible conditions & follow discipline. (4) Participation in assigned training programs / workshops.
