The Manager QA & MR will be responsible for leading the complete Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions within the machine shop. This includes maintaining quality systems, ensuring compliance with ISO/IATF standards, driving continual improvement, handling customer requirements, and functioning as Management Representative (MR) for audits and certifications. The role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and experience in machining processes, inspection systems, and quality tools.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Assurance & Quality Control Management
- Oversee the entire QA/QC operations for the machine shop, ensuring product quality throughout the manufacturing cycle.
- Establish and enforce quality policies, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements and industry standards.
- Monitor shop-floor quality performance and initiate improvement actions.
2. Customer Complaint Handling
- Act as the primary contact for customer quality concerns.
- Conduct root-cause analysis using tools such as 5 Why, Ishikawa, and 8D.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and verify effectiveness.
- Maintain customer communication and ensure closure of complaints within defined timelines.
3. Inspection & Measurement System Management
- Supervise in-process and final inspection activities.
- Ensure proper functioning and calibration of inspection instruments, gauges, and CMM.
- Develop and maintain measurement system capability through MSA studies.
- Review inspection reports, quality trends, and take necessary corrective actions.
4. Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 / IATF 16949)
- Lead implementation and maintenance of QMS as per ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards.
- Manage documentation, procedures, manuals, and records as per requirements.
- Conduct internal audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings.
- Manage supplier audits and develop corrective actions where needed.
5. Management Representative (MR) Responsibilities
- Coordinate external certification and surveillance audits.
- Ensure compliance with QMS and report quality performance to top management.
- Drive continual improvement initiatives and cross-functional quality activities.
6. APQP / PPAP / FMEA / MSA / SPC
- Lead preparation and submission of APQP and PPAP documentation for new product development.
- Spearhead PFMEA creation and regular reviews with cross-functional teams.
- Conduct MSA and SPC studies to ensure process capability and control.
- Validate processes and maintain Control Plans as per customer/standard requirements.
7. Process Control & Validation
- Develop and implement process validation methodologies.
- Verify process capability using Cp, Cpk, Pp, and Ppk parameters.
- Ensure effective implementation of Process Flow Diagrams and Control Plans.
8. Calibration and Instrument Management
- Create and manage calibration schedules for all instruments and gauges.
- Ensure traceability to national/international standards.
- Maintain calibration records and reports.
9. Supplier Quality & Vendor Development
- Evaluate and develop suppliers from a quality perspective.
- Conduct supplier audits and drive improvement activities.
- Collaborate with purchasing and engineering teams for vendor development and quality upgrades.
10. Training & Development
- Train operators, inspectors, and team members on quality tools and techniques.
- Promote quality awareness across the shop floor.
- Conduct regular refresher training on QMS, problem-solving, and best practices.
11. Customer Interaction & Quality Reviews
- Handle customer visits, audits, and technical reviews.
- Present quality performance, documents, and improvement initiatives during reviews.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of machining processes (Turning, Milling, VMC/HMC, Grinding, etc.)
- Expertise in ISO 9001 & IATF 16949 QMS implementation
- Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC
- Proficiency in inspection tools and measurement systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and customer-handling abilities
- Leadership skills with team management capability
- Proficient in MS Office and quality documentation
