Job Description

Key Responsibilities:1. IBR & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all fabrication activities comply with Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR).
  • Coordinate with IBR authorities for stage inspections, approvals, and certification.
  • Prepare and maintain IBR documentation including Form IIIA, III, III-C, etc.
  • Ensure all required stamping and documentation are completed per IBR guidelines.

2. Quality Assurance & Control

  • Develop, review, and approve WPS, PQR, and WPQ as per IBR/ASME Section IX.
  • Monitor and inspect welding activities including pre-heating, inter-pass temperature control, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT).
  • Inspect incoming raw materials, verify MTCs, and ensure traceability.
  • Conduct stage-wise and final inspections (fit-up, welding, dimensional, hydro test, etc.).
  • Handle NDT interpretation and coordination with Level II personnel.

3. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain all fabrication quality records, weld maps, inspection reports, NDT records, and calibration records.
  • Prepare quality dossiers for customer submission and IBR authority review.
  • Support audits (internal/external/IBR) and ensure compliance.

4. Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with design, production, and third-party inspection agencies (TPIAs).
  • Guide welders and fitters on quality requirements and welding techniques.
  • Attend and resolve site/customer complaints related to quality issues.

5. Safety & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure safe practices during inspections and testing (e.g., hydro testing).
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Suggest improvements to enhance product quality and process efficiency.

Key Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of IBR, ASME Section VIII & IX, and related codes.
  • Hands-on experience with heavy fabrication processes – cutting, rolling, welding, forming, etc.
  • Expertise in welding inspection (SMAW, SAW, GTAW, etc.).
  • Familiarity with NDT methods (RT, UT, PT, MT).
  • Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 QMS is a plus.
  • Proficient in reading fabrication drawings, P&IDs, and isometrics.

Work Environment:

  • On-site role (fabrication shop / project site).
  • May require working in shifts or extended hours during shutdowns or testing.
  • Use of PPE and adherence to HSE norms is mandatory.
