Purchase Engineer

The Purchase Engineer is responsible for procuring materials, components, and services needed for the organizations manufacturing or operational activities. You will ensure timely delivery, cost efficiency, quality compliance, and maintain strong supplier relationships. The role involves collaborating with engineering, quality, production, and finance to meet material requirements and support continuous improvement.

• Raise and process purchase requisitions (PR), obtain quotations (RFQs), compare bids and negotiate contracts with suppliers. 

• Create and release purchase orders (POs) using ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, etc.), and track delivery status. 

• Evaluate, select, and develop vendors; perform supplier audits, inspect materials for quality, and perform vendor performance reviews.

• Manage inventory control: maintain safety stock, minimize stockouts/overstock, monitor Minimum Stock Level (MSL) items. 

• Handle incoming invoices, validate with POs, follow up on payments, and reconcile discrepancies. 

• Coordinate cross-functionally with engineering (for specifications, drawings, changes), production (for planning needs) and quality assurance (for conformity). 

• Monitor market trends, pricing, supplier lead times; perform cost-saving initiatives.

• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (tax, GST, import-export, custom clearance when applicable).

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical)

• Relevant experience (usually 2-3 years, or more depending on seniority) in procurement / purchasing / vendor management in manufacturing or engineering industry.
