Role & responsibilities Role & responsibilities The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power systems design, analysis, and operation, along with the ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers. You will be responsible for providing technical expertise in the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of electrical power systems, both for renewable and conventional energy sources. Preferred candidate profile Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering is required. A Masters degree or higher is preferred. Experience: experienced in power system engineering, with a strong background in system design, analysis, and protection. Experience in managing and leading teams of engineers on large projects. Proven experience with power system modeling software such as ETAP, PSS/E, DigSILENT PowerFactory, CYME or similar. Skills: Strong understanding of power system components, including transformers, circuit breakers, relays, and control systems. In-depth knowledge of power system analysis, protection, and control. Experience in renewable energy integration and grid modernization projects. Proficiency in electrical CAD software, simulation tools, and system modeling. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication skills and ability to work with a diverse team. Experience in high-voltage and substation design. Familiarity with industry codes and standards (IEEE, IEC, ANSI, etc.). Knowledge of energy management systems and SCADA systems.

The job involves contributing to the technical development and delivery of studies and analysis within the power systems team. This includes delivering consulting work related to various types of power systems studies and analysis such as static studies (e.g., load flow, fault level, reactive compensation), dynamic studies (e.g., stability studies), harmonic analysis, power quality, filter design, transient overvoltage, insulation coordination, control interaction studies, earthing studies, protection coordination, and Arc Flash studies. You will provide technical and project management leadership to support the project team in the successful delivery of consulting work, manage and resource the power systems team, and ensure the technical quality of delivery of power systems projects, reports, and proposals. Furthermore, you will contribute to the commercial development of studies and analysis within the power systems team by building and maintaining key client relationships, identifying areas for integration of services/skill sets through multi-disciplinary working, leading the development and delivery of project proposals, driving efficiency improvements in delivery (e.g., through the development of new scripts on power systems software packages), and ensuring excellence in power systems software packages. Other requirements for the role include leadership skills, demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team, excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely, strong team collaboration skills, proven experience in guiding and developing team members, being educated to degree level in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems specialization, extensive experience in power systems consulting, desire and ability to drive growth in power systems, a wide network of industry contacts and clients, proactive and highly motivated nature, proven track record in leading teams, ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects/proposals, focus on quality and excellence of deliverables, strong and in-depth market knowledge of the UK Power Industry, and proven client relationships with UK clients. Conduct and oversee detailed dynamic system analysis, including transient stability, voltage stability, and interconnection studies. Manage and optimize models for power grid expansion or upgrades. Power Grid Analysis and Strategy: Oversee and direct grid reliability analysis for large-scale transmission and distribution systems. Lead risk assessment efforts, fault studies, and contingency planning to ensure system resilience and security. Define and implement optimization strategies for grid performance, including enhancing integration with renewable energy and smart grid technologies. System Design, Optimization, and Innovation: Lead the design and implementation of innovative power system solutions, ensuring their feasibility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Key Responsibilities: 1 Protection System Design & Coordination: Design, review, and implement protection schemes for 400kV switchyards . Configure and program numerical relays (Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider, SEL, Alstom, etc.) . Perform relay coordination studies to ensure selectivity and system stability. Develop and implement protection logic diagrams, settings, and interlocking schemes . 2 Testing & Commissioning of Protection Equipment: Conduct testing and commissioning of: Distance Protection (Zonal Protection, Carrier Aided Trip, Power Swing Block) Differential Protection (Transformer, Line, Busbar, Reactor Protection) Overcurrent & Earth Fault Protection Breaker Failure Protection, Synchro-check, and Auto Recloser Relays Perform Primary and Secondary Injection Testing using Omicron, Doble, or Megger test kits. Verify Current Transformer (CT) & Potential Transformer (PT) ratios, polarity, and burden calculations . Conduct circuit breaker timing tests and SF6 gas monitoring . 3 Fault Analysis & Troubleshooting: Analyze fault records, relay event logs, and disturbance reports to identify root causes. Investigate grid disturbances, tripping events, and blackout scenarios . Coordinate with Grid Operators, Load Dispatch Centers (LDCs), and System Control Units for system restoration. 4 Documentation & Compliance: Maintain records of relay settings, test results, and protection coordination reports . Prepare testing & commissioning protocols, SAT (Site Acceptance Test) reports, and relay configuration documents . Ensure compliance with IEC 61850, IS, IEEE, and Grid Code requirements . 5 Safety & Reliability: Ensure adherence to LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) procedures before testing or maintenance. Implement best practices for electrical safety, earthing, and system protection . Conduct risk assessments and ensure reliable protection system operation . Required Qualifications & Skills: Education: B.Tech/B.E. in Electrical Engineering (Diploma holders with relevant experience may apply). Experience: 5-10 years in Protection, Testing & Commissioning of 400kV switchyards . Technical Knowledge: Relay Testing & Coordination (Distance, Differential, Overcurrent, Busbar Protection) Protection Scheme Design (AIS/GIS Substations, Transmission Lines, Transformers) SCADA, Substation Automation (IEC 61850, Goose Messaging, RTU, HMI) Testing Equipment: Omicron, Doble, Megger, Freja Fault Analysis, Grid Protection Studies, Power System Analysis Certifications: Power System Protection, Omicron / Doble Relay Testing Certifications (Preferred).
