Producer/Assistant Producer Social Media

As a Social Media Producer for BBC News Tamil, you will be responsible for producing and publishing a variety of digital content, including text, video, social cards, and audio formats to uphold the highest professional standards. Your role will also involve exercising editorial judgment to develop story ideas and deliver accurate and impartial journalism. The majority of the BBC's Indian operations have transitioned to the Collective Newsroom, established by experienced journalists in India, with over 250 journalists and staff dedicated to providing distinctive, impartial, and world-class content for BBC's Indian language websites and social media platforms. Your key responsibilities will include using various digital equipment and technologies to research, write, edit, and deliver content in different formats, exercising editorial judgment, undertaking pre- and post-production work, collaborating with team members and other departments, tailoring news treatments for diverse audiences, planning activities efficiently, producing engaging content through different skills, and ensuring adherence to editorial standards and health and safety policies. To be successful in this role, you should have a minimum of three years of social media handling experience, a strong knowledge of current affairs, and proficient written and spoken Tamil skills along with a good understanding of English. You should be able to translate accurately between English and Tamil, manage social media channels effectively to drive engagement, create original content both from the desk and the field, analyze trends, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines while upholding quality standards.
