Job Title: Principal – Arts and Science College

Job Summary:

The Principal serves as the academic and administrative head of the Arts and Science College, responsible for providing visionary leadership, fostering academic excellence, ensuring regulatory compliance, promoting research and innovation, and upholding the institution’s mission and values. The Principal will lead the college towards achieving its strategic goals through collaborative leadership, effective policy implementation, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:1. Academic Leadership:

• Provide strategic direction and leadership for academic planning and development.
• Promote excellence in teaching, learning, and research across all departments.
• Encourage interdisciplinary studies, value-based education, and innovative pedagogy.
• Ensure the development and implementation of curriculum in line with UGC norms and affiliating university standards.

2. Administrative Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day administration including admissions, staffing, scheduling, and budgeting.
• Supervise faculty recruitment, development, appraisal, and retention.
• Ensure proper maintenance of infrastructure, laboratories, and library resources.
• Convene and preside over academic and administrative meetings.

3. Regulatory & Compliance:

• Ensure strict adherence to rules and regulations laid down by the UGC, AICTE (if applicable), State Government, and affiliating university.
• Lead the college’s preparation for accreditations and audits (NAAC, NIRF, etc.).
• Oversee timely submission of reports, returns, and documentation to statutory bodies.

4. Student Development:

• Foster a student-centered learning environment.
• Support co-curricular and extracurricular programs that promote holistic development.
• Implement robust grievance redressal mechanisms, mentoring, and career guidance systems.

5. Institutional Development:

• Build collaborations with academic, industrial, and research organizations.
• Drive fundraising, alumni engagement, and branding initiatives.
• Promote inclusive practices and ensure equity in all aspects of college functioning.

6. Governance & Policy Implementation:

• Execute policies laid down by the Governing Body/Board of Management.
• Present periodic reports and strategic proposals to the management.
• Ensure financial transparency, discipline, and effective use of institutional resources.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
• Minimum of 15 years of teaching/research/administrative experience in higher education, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (HoD/Dean/Vice-Principal).
• Should fulfill the eligibility criteria prescribed by UGC /Pondicherry University/ State Government norms.
