Principal Engineer - Flood Risk Modelling

As a Principal Engineer (Flood Risk Modelling) within the Water Team at WSP, your primary responsibility will be to provide technical support, resource & financial management, mentoring, and independently deliver flood modelling projects for both internal and external clients. You will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and efficient project delivery. **Key Responsibilities:** - Collaborate within the team to support junior staff in developing their technical knowledge and independently deliver tasks/projects. - Possess an excellent understanding of technical design procedures, standards, policy, contracts, and specifications relevant to the UK water industry. - Delegate tasks effectively to develop team members and improve time management. - Check and review work produced by the technical team, ensuring strong knowledge of reviewing/QA procedures on hydraulic modelling, hydrology, and flood risk management projects. - Contribute to a culture of safety, health, and well-being within the team, emphasizing the importance of safety for all individuals. - Lead projects and large-frameworks, providing guidance to junior colleagues on various aspects including flood risk assessments, hydraulic modelling, hydrology, and GIS-based desk studies. - Demonstrate expertise in hydraulics, hydrology, hydraulic design, and GIS skills for data management. - Review project reports and technical notes, guiding junior staff on detailed technical writing. - Apply Project Management procedures, BMS, and proposal development practices. - Continuously upskill on industry standards, specifications, and tools used in the UK water sector, sharing knowledge with junior colleagues. **Qualifications Required:** - Masters Degree in Water Resources Engineering or equivalent. - Minimum of 12 years industry experience with a strong background in flood risk management, hydraulic modelling, hydrology, and UK water industry exposure. - Proficiency in various domains/skillsets within the flood risk management sector and UK Water Industry. - Expertise in 1d-2d Hydraulic Modelling, Hydrological Modelling, Flood Risk Assessment, and other related areas. - Strong experience in multiple UK modelling software and excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to independently lead and resolve technical issues, collaborate with other design disciplines, and support bids & fee proposals. **About WSP:** WSP is a leading professional services consulting firm dedicated to local communities and driven by international brainpower.
