PostgreSQL DBA

As a skilled PostgreSQL Database Administrator at Pine Labs, you will be responsible for various tasks related to PostgreSQL databases. Your role will involve installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance optimization of databases. Additionally, you will be involved in database schema design, security management, backup and recovery, troubleshooting, and potentially database migration projects. Key Responsibilities: - Database Setup and Configuration: Install PostgreSQL, configure instances, set up client authentication, and manage connection parameters. - Database Design and Schema Management: Design database schemas, tables, relationships, implement indexing strategies, and ensure normalization. - Security and Access Control: Implement security measures, manage user roles and permissions, and audit database activity. - Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor database performance, tune queries, optimize storage, and identify performance bottlenecks. - Backup and Recovery: Implement backup and recovery plans, ensure data integrity and availability in case of failure. - Troubleshooting and Support: Investigate and resolve database issues, provide support to users and developers, and document troubleshooting procedures. - Migration Projects: Participate in database migration projects, including migrating from other database systems to PostgreSQL. - Automation and Scripting: Automate tasks using scripting languages to streamline administrative processes. - Documentation: Maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. - Server Sizing: Estimate service configuration based on data volume and performance requirements. Qualifications Required: - 10+ years of relevant work experience - BE/BTech in computer science or technology - Proficiency in PostgreSQL syntax, features, and administration tools - Strong understanding of SQL, including query optimization and data manipulation - Knowledge of database normalization, indexing, and other design principles - Understanding of operating system concepts related to database performance and stability - Knowledge of database security practices and authentication mechanisms - Familiarity with scripting languages like Python or Bash for automation - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Effective communication with developers, users, and team members - Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team - Experience with Linux operating systems and scripting languages - Mandatory knowledge of PostgreSQL on AWS and OnPremises Pine Labs values individuals who take the initiative, show ownership, deliver effectively, and seek continuous improvement.
