Optical Transmission Engineer

Sr Engineer Optical Engineering

• Design, configure, and troubleshoot optical transmission networks, including OTN, DWDM, ROADM and SDH technologies.
• Configure and optimize optical transmission equipment, including amplifiers, transponders, muxponders, and wavelength switching technologies.
• Good troubleshooting & performance analysis of optical transmission networks.
• Perform end-to-end planning and implementation of OTN, DCI devices from multi vendors (Ciena, Nokia, Tejas, Ribbon, Huawei).
• Perform network planning, link budget analysis, and optical power calculations.
• Evaluate optical fiber performance, dispersion compensation, and OSNR (Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio) analysis.
• Perform network testing, troubleshooting, and failure analysis using tools such as OTDR, OSA, and BER testers.
• Stay updated on emerging optical transport technologies and standards.
• Knowledge on SDN based optical control and automation frameworks.

Skill Sets

• Strong understanding of

  Optical Transport Networks (OTN), Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADM), DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing)

  systems.
• Hands-on experience in

  optical link budget calculations

  (power levels, OSNR, attenuation).
• Experience with

  network topology design

  (point-to-point, ring, mesh, hybrid architectures).
• Design of

  optical protection & restoration mechanisms

  (1+1+R line protection/client protection, SNCP protection, GMPLS-based restoration).
• Understanding of

  coherent optical transmission

  .
• Experience with

  optical planning tools

  (

  Ciena OnePlanner, Planner Plus &

  Nokia Wave Suite planner

  ).
• Performance analysis of

  fiber impairments (CD, PMD, nonlinear effects, OSNR degradation)

  .

• Path computation & wavelength routing optimization

  in ROADM networks.
• Understanding in

  open optical networking (OpenROADM, OpenConfig, disaggregated optical transport)

  .
• Traffic engineering & capacity planning based on

  traffic forecasting models

  .

• Strong

  analytical and problem-solving skills

  for network design & troubleshooting

• Hands-on experience with

  optical test & measurement equipments (OTDR, OSA, Ethernet BERT, RFC2544, OTN BER testers).
