A NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) Calibration Lab In-Charge is responsible for overseeing the operations of a calibration laboratory, ensuring it meets NABL standards and maintains its accreditation. This includes managing the quality system, supervising staff, and ensuring accurate and reliable calibration services. Key responsibilities involve implementing and maintaining the quality management system, managing equipment calibration, ensuring proper documentation, and handling audits and assessments. Here's a more detailed breakdown of the responsibilities:1. Quality Management:

• Implementing and maintaining the quality management system (QMS):This involves developing and updating procedures, ensuring they align with NABL standards (particularly ISO/IEC 17025) and other relevant regulations.
• Ensuring compliance with NABL standards:This includes understanding and implementing all requirements related to personnel competence, equipment calibration, testing procedures, quality management systems, and reporting of results.
• Managing documentation:This involves maintaining accurate records of all calibrations, equipment maintenance, quality control checks, and other relevant activities.
• Handling audits and assessments:This includes preparing for and participating in both internal and external audits, addressing any non-conformities, and implementing corrective actions.

2. Personnel Management:

• Supervising and training staff:This involves guiding and mentoring calibration technicians, ensuring they are competent and proficient in their roles.
• Ensuring staff competency:This may involve assessing staff skills, providing training opportunities, and maintaining training records.
• Allocating tasks and responsibilities:Ensuring that all calibration activities are performed efficiently and effectively.

3. Calibration and Testing:

• Overseeing calibration procedures: Ensuring that all calibrations are performed according to established procedures and standards.
• Managing equipment calibration and maintenance: Ensuring that all measuring and test equipment is calibrated and maintained to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Reviewing calibration reports: Verifying the accuracy and validity of calibration data and reports.

4. Other Responsibilities:

• Managing the laboratory's scope of accreditation:This includes maintaining the list of calibrated instruments and the specific calibration services offered.
• Interacting with clients:Addressing client inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring client satisfaction.
• Participating in proficiency testing programs:Ensuring the laboratory's performance is evaluated against external standards.
• Continuous improvement:Identifying areas for improvement in the laboratory's operations and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

• Technical expertise in calibration: Strong understanding of calibration principles, procedures, and standards.
• Knowledge of NABL standards and ISO/IEC 17025: Familiarity with the specific requirements for accreditation and quality management in a calibration laboratory.
• Experience in managing a laboratory: Proven ability to manage a team, oversee operations, and ensure compliance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to effectively communicate with staff, clients, and auditors.
