As a Statistical Methodologist at our climate tech startup, you will design and implement advanced statistical methodologies to enhance experiment design, model calibration, and validation of process-based models. You will be responsible for applying both frequentist and Bayesian approaches to quantify uncertainty and develop predictive models. Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, including environmental modelers, agronomists, and data scientists, you will integrate statistical insights into decision-making processes. Your key responsibilities will include conducting spatial modeling and geostatistical analyses for large-scale agricultural datasets, developing statistical techniques to support Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) frameworks for carbon projects, and ensuring compliance with carbon protocols (VM0042, VMD0053). Your expertise in automating and optimizing statistical workflows using Python will be crucial in this role. To qualify for this position, you should hold a Master's or Ph.D. in Statistics, Data Science, Environmental Science, Agronomy, or a related field. Strong proficiency in frequentist and/or Bayesian statistics, experimental design, model validation, and Python for statistical computing is required. Your analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills will enable you to produce high-quality reports and scientific publications. Preferred qualifications include experience in spatial modeling, geostatistics, an understanding of agriculture, soil science, and ecosystem dynamics, as well as hands-on experience with process-based models such as DayCent and DNDC. Familiarity with carbon credit methodologies (VM0042, VMD0053) will be an added advantage. In return, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including ESOP, the opportunity to play a key role in shaping our fast-growing startup, support for learning and professional development, and a culture of undogmatic, unbureaucratic creativity and collaboration. As a seasoned agronomy professional, you will be responsible for demonstrating a deep understanding of carbon and nitrogen cycling in soils, specifically how regenerative practices such as cover cropping, reduced tillage, and organic amendments influence soil organic carbon sequestration, nitrogen mineralization, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. You will lead a team of research associates in conducting thorough literature reviews on the impact of GHG emissions from rice, wheat, sugarcane, and maize cultivation in Indian farming systems. Your role will involve assessing the effects of regenerative practices on soil microbial activity, nutrient availability, and carbon-nitrogen interactions to develop effective land management strategies. In addition, you will be tasked with developing field experiment protocols aligned with project objectives and collaborating with national and international agriculture research institutes to conduct experimental field trials aimed at studying the impact of regenerative practices on various GHG emission sources and soil organic carbon pools. You will design comprehensive soil sampling strategies across diverse landscapes and management practices, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis. Your leadership in overseeing field teams during soil sampling and GHG measurements will be crucial in maintaining data quality and adherence to protocols. Furthermore, you will be expected to actively engage in scientific forums and conferences to share insights, build partnerships, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications advancing knowledge on soil carbon dynamics and GHG emission reduction strategies. Your ability to translate complex scientific findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences, including policymakers and field practitioners, will be essential. The ideal candidate for this role should hold a Ph.D. in Agricultural Research, Climate Change, Soil Science, or related fields, with 7-10 years of experience in GHG emissions research, soil microbiology, or agronomic practices specific to crops like rice, wheat, maize, or sugarcane. Proficiency in advanced data analysis and modeling software, strong communication skills, and a willingness to travel for fieldwork are also required. Desired skills include an understanding of climate change impacts on agriculture, experience with field trials and sustainable farming techniques, expertise in soil carbon cycling, and strong problem-solving abilities. Joining our team will offer you a competitive salary and benefits package, a key role in a fast-growing climate tech startup, support for learning and professional development, and a culture of creativity and collaboration.,
