Senior Machine Learning Scientist

Introduction to the Team

Are you passionate about using machine learning to improve Customer Experience? Would you like to work in the fast-paced, competitive, customer-focused, and data-rich world of online travel?

Our Machine Learning and Data Science team are growing! We are looking to hire researchers and data scientists interested in breaking new ground to tackle some of the most complex customer experience problems in the travel domain. The focus of your job will be on developing state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to power and enhance the customer experience across highly complex post-booking recommendations, customer service use cases. You will tackle substantial technical challenges, from inference problems arising from long-tail traveler data to multi-objective optimization problems in the highly dynamic, operationally complex environment of customer service. Your passion for the craft of statistics, machine learning, and causal inference will unlock tangible growth for our business by exploiting these rich data sets and building effective solutions for travelers and our partners.

We are looking for a hands-on scientist who is passionate about applying machine learning to complex prediction and optimization problems that drive an ecosystem that anticipates traveler needs, personalizes dynamic add-ons and upsells, and improves service experiences, making travel more seamless for millions of customers and partners worldwide.

As a senior contributor, you will lead the development of scalable data science products, mentor junior team members, and drive innovation across the organization.

In This Role, You Will:

• Design and implement end-to-end data science solutions for complex business problems.

• Apply advanced machine learning techniques including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning.

• Optimize data pipelines and storage environments across cloud and on-premise systems.

• Translate business requirements into robust models and actionable insights.

• Create clear, compelling visualizations and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.

• Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the technical community through blogs, talks, and open-source contributions.

• Collaborate cross-functionally to align data science initiatives with broader business goals.

• Ensure ethical AI practices and apply core product management principles in solution design.

Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in a technical or scientific discipline (or equivalent experience)
  7+ years with a Bachelor's degree 5+ years with a Master's degree 4+ years with a PhD

• Led 2+ long-term projects spanning multiple quarters

• Built and maintained multiple production-grade data science products

• Active contributor to technical communities (e.g., blogs, talks, competitions)

• Supervised, Unsupervised, and Reinforcement Learning

• ML Software Development Lifecycle

• Python, Java, SQL

• Feature Engineering & Training Data Management

• Data Visualization & UX/UI Principles

• Business Acumen & Communication

• Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

• Stakeholder Management & Project Delivery

• Talent Assessment & Coaching

• AI Ethics & Product Management Principles

• Expert in at least one ML programming language (e.g., Python, Scala)

• Applies software design principles and writes clean, modular code

• Configures and optimizes cloud/on-prem environments

• Designs robust ML models tailored to business needs

• Applies advanced statistical methods (e.g., Bayesian Neural Networks, Markov Models)

• Reads and implements cutting-edge research

• Builds end-to-end model designs with deep business understanding

• Creates impactful visualizations using industry-standard tools

• Communicates insights clearly and persuasively

• Frames business problems as data science tasks

• Manages stakeholders and project backlogs effectively

• Delivers high-impact solutions aligned with business timelines
