Industry - Cattle field Industries Job type - Full Time, permanent (onsite) Livestock Extension Officer ( Veterinary Doctor ) Job Summary Under the supervision of the Livestock Officer, the Livestock Extension Officer works to improve food security and livelihoods of target smallholders through extension services on cattle breeding, management and development related services mostly in the outdoor setting. The Livestock Officer provides technical support and plays mobilization and facilitation role in communities, including breed and feed technology, cattle management best practices, awareness creation and behavioural change through education, information and communication. Duties and Responsibilities · Facilitate village level peer education on modern cattle management practices where animal rearing is promoted on the same land management unit as agricultural crops and agroforestry or dedicated plots. · Facilitate family level livestock management plan development (herd size, breed improvement, feed, health etc.) and implementation to optimize utilization of their land. · Guide farmers on maintaining optimum number of animals based on breeding plan and suggested performance goal. · Guide farmers on appropriate feeding practices required for breeding animals including mineral supplementation etc. · Coordinate and closely work with village level agricultural/livestock development agents & technicians in implementing livestock management activities including animal health. · Mentor farmers to understand the reproduction and fertility cycles of the animals; and seek the AI service when the chance of impregnating is high. · Store, travel with, thaw, and prepare semen for insemination correctly to maximize the chance of impregnation; · Perform artificial insemination procedures and pregnancy checks on cows of the target farmers. · Follow protocols pertaining to biosecurity, safety, hygiene and animal welfare. · Follow the prescribed procedures in handling semen straw and in conducting insemination. · Train and mentor beekeepers on apiary site selection and preparation, transitional hive construction and inspection, colony multiplication and transferring, bee forage development, disease and pest control, harvest and post-harvest handling. · Under the guidance of Livestock Expert, conduct other livestock management and related activities. Attend to the complaints from the field regarding feed supply. Provide training to staff regarding animal health care, nutrition, animal husbandry. Educate customers as well as assist them in running the dairy business efficiently. Plan extension programs. Conduct research on the relevant topics. Strengthen public relations with customers and veterinary doctors. Conduct market survey. Competitive analysis. Full fill customers need, keep a record of their complaints and build a friendly relationship with customers. Support Marketing Manager/Executive/Officer for promotional schemes like advertisements and exhibitions. Promotion of animal feed product to farmers Conduct awareness camps with big dairies and potential dairies Work with sales team to provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to educate sales team and customers Excellent communication skills, two-wheeler required Conduct orientation on animal health care, nutrition and animal husbandry. Educate and assist customers in running their dairy business efficiently. Assist the R&D department by conducting primary and secondary research. Conduct market surveys. Look into customer’s grievances. Disease diagnoses and treatment of dairy animals (Cow & Buffalo). Provide technical services to dairy farmers and Key Clients. Convince customer for using best quality cattle feed to maximize the profit. Dealers and Farmers meetings, educating dairy farmers on contemporary farming techniques related to animal health, bio-security, dairy farm management and company product promotions. Day to day update on feed performance reports to management. Convince and retain to existing customers. Provide Technical Training to Sales team. Sales Support and coordinate with feed sales team. He will be responsible to train the ASM / SO regarding cattle feed basic ailments (online/offline) He shall be visiting company locations to solve the major cattle health issues faced by the local team at PAN India level as and when required. His job role will be of a technical veterinarian expert, who knows in & out of cattle health, and who can provide the best of options to treat them at short notice.
