Librarian (Female Applicants Only)

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and qualified female individual to join our institution as a Librarian. The successful candidate will manage the daily operations of the library, ensuring the efficient and effective provision of library services to students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate should possess a solid background in library science, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for fostering a love of reading and learning.

We expect candidates from Pondicherry and surroundings only.

Responsibilities:

Library Management:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the library, including circulation, cataloging, and reference services.
• Maintain an organized and welcoming library environment conducive to study and research.
• Develop and implement library policies and procedures.

Collection Development:

• Select, acquire, and organize library materials, including books, journals, electronic resources, and multimedia.
• Conduct regular evaluations of the library collection to ensure it meets the needs of the academic community.
• Manage the library budget for acquisitions and subscriptions.

User Services:

• Assist students, faculty, and staff in locating and using library resources.
• Provide reference and research assistance, including guidance on information retrieval and database use.
• Conduct library orientation sessions and information literacy workshops.

Cataloging and Classification:

• Catalog and classify library materials according to standard library practices.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date catalog records.

Administrative Duties:

• Maintain records of library usage, circulation statistics, and other relevant data.
• Prepare reports on library activities and performance.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
• A Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) or a related discipline is preferred.

Library Skills:

• Knowledge of library cataloging systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal System, Library of Congress Classification).
• Proficiency in using integrated library systems (ILS) and library management software.
• Familiarity with digital library resources and online databases.

Communication Skills:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely to students and faculty.

Location Requirement: Applicants must be residing in and around Pondicherry.
