Lead Platform Engineer, Application Modernization

As a Lead Software Engineer in the Application Modernization Platform (AMP) team at MongoDB, you will play a crucial role in transforming rigid, legacy applications into modern, microservices-based architectures on MongoDB. Your primary responsibility will be to architect the platform foundation and infrastructure that enables a "build once, run anywhere" model, ensuring seamless operation in client environments with security and network constraints. Key Responsibilities: - Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, quality, and continuous improvement - Drive the architectural vision for the Application Modernisation Platform to support a self-service SaaS product model within client-controlled environments - Lead the design and implementation of an orchestration layer managing authentication, telemetry, and tool lifecycle - Architect a client-side application for developer workflows and secure communication with hosted services - Solve complex "Day 2" operations challenges related to DevOps, user management, secrets, and updates - Collaborate with security and product teams to ensure secure execution of tasks, protecting client data and MongoDB IP - Guide the team through technical challenges in container security, logic distribution, and data sharing Qualifications: - 8+ years of software development and operations experience, specializing in internal developer platforms or distributable software infrastructure - 2+ years of leadership experience, coaching and mentoring engineers for high-impact results - Deep expertise in designing applications for restricted network environments - Proficiency in containerization, orchestration, and designing systems for strict security monitoring - Experience with Service Host architectures, shared routing, proxy layers, and API gateways - Proficient in managing persistent storage solutions within distributed systems - Strong understanding of security-first design, untrusted code execution, access control, and input validation - Experience in designing auto-update mechanisms for software in restricted environments - Curiosity, positive attitude, and a drive for continuous learning Success Measures: Within the first three months, you will ramp up on architecture, establish technical leadership, and begin mentoring team members Within six months, you will lead the team to deliver a prototype of the Deployment Platform, design platform update processes, and establish a high-performing culture Within 12 months, you will be recognized as a technical expert, deliver a stable platform, and play a key role in team growth About MongoDB: MongoDB empowers innovation with its unified database platform, helping organizations modernize legacy workloads and unleash AI.
