Purpose of the Job
To plan for expansion of existing Intercity Optical DWDM OTN/IP network and new Optical DWDM OTN/IP network deployment, ensuring resilient, flexible & scalable managed network comprising of multiple vendors & technologies, for delivering world-class cost effective telecom services to the Mobility, Enterprise, SMB and Telemedia BU’s.
To manage day-to-day planning activities for Intercity DWDM networks to facilitate new provisioning and mange expansion / upgrades of network without impacting existing services.
Deliverables
- Planning for existing intercity DWDM OTN/IP network upgrade/expansion, based on utilization trends and forecast information.
- Achieve high network uptime through efficient network architecture design and effective use of latest technology of multiple vendors & products
- Coordination with the Partner team to ensure timely and efficient transport network planning.
- Timely plans are released to ensure there is no BW constraint in Core Network.
- Assist SAE function in technical evaluation of new products / new vendors / new technology.
- Rapid growth and advancement in Network in terms of size, reach, capacity, Service level guarantees, technologies and availability of right resource at right time at right price.
- Timing of procurement of equipment for efficient inventory management.
- Preparing NFA for existing network upgrade/expansion, following up for its approval, raising indent/PO to ensure the corresponding inventory availability in time.
- Coordinating with O&M, NOC and Implementation teams for efficient deployment & effective utilization of existing network resources

- Network upgrade / expansions
- Based on utilization trends and forecast information, plan for proactive optical network capacity expansions.
- Tracking of the released plans for its implementation to ensure the network/bandwidth availability well within the time for delivering it to customers.
- Coordinate with the O&M & NOC teams to communicate & implement network deployment, as per plans.
- Analyze customer feedback vis--vis the existing services and projected customer demands, in coordination with business team, so as to plan future deployments effectively.
- Plan evolution of network architecture based on inputs from SAE (Strategy, Architecture & Engineering) and future growth, availability, network reach criteria, in line with changing customer requirements.
- Plan redundant network topologies to achieve network uptime of 99.99% in order to meet customer SLA of transport network
- Co-ordination for deployments
- Manage day-to-day planning activities for core DWDM optics networks to facilitate new provisioning and mange expansion / upgrades of network, without impacting existing services.
- Coordinate with O&M and NOC teams for efficient deployment & effective utilization of existing network resources.
- Workout alternatives from available resources for overcoming any constraint being faced in implementation phase.
- Process Development & its Adherence:
- Ensure timely audit of all security processes and compliance as per the business requirements.
- Benchmarking Processes against MBSS and also other International Telecom Services Tools
- Inventory Management
- Based on projections and utilization trends in network, provide forecast for procurement of equipment to materials periodically.
- Based on lead times and network expansion requirements, coordinate procurement of equipment with SCM. Ensure maintenance of optimum inventory levels so as to meet all expected as well as most of the unexpected customer requirements.
- Coordinate with the SCM & store teams to facilitate equipment movement to desired locations for network deployment.
- Coordinate with SCM, Ops and deployment team for redeployment of removed inventory.
- Manage and develop team
- Clearly communicate the objectives, guidelines and resource availability to team to facilitate them.
- Facilitate training of team members on new technologies, new products and on identified developmental needs
- Provide challenging assignments to team members so as to motivate them to learn new technologies and think innovatively.
- Discuss frequently with team members about all assignments being handled / planned, so as to facilitate exchange of knowledge as well as ideas amongst all.
Educational Level
B. Tech (Electronics and Telecommunication)
Working Experience
8-12 years of total experience in telecom industry, preferably with 2-4 years in a network planning role with following skills:
