Lead Mainframe Developer

Role & responsibilities

• Lead & mentor a team of mainframe developers (COBOL/JCL/DB2), conduct code reviews, enforce standards.
  
• Manage the full SDLC: requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and warranty support.
  
• Design and maintain efficient

  COBOL programs

  , optimized

  DB2 SQL

  , and

  robust JCL

  job streams.
• Resolve technical production issuesbatch abends, deadlocks, MQ/CICS interactions, DB2 performance issues.
  
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to analyze requirements and provide technical recommendations.
  
• Work with scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M), utilities (sort, ICETOOL, ID CAMS), and mainframe tools.
  
• Promote best practices for security (RACF), version control (Endeavor, Change man), and mainframe CI/CD (e.g. Git-based pipelines).
  

Required Skills & Expertise:

• 8+ years

  working on IBM z/OS mainframe environments with strong

  COBOL

  ,

  JCL

  ,

  DB2

  experience.
• Deep knowledge of

  TSO/ISPF

  , SDSF, and dataset management (VSAM, GDG, PDS). experience
• Proficiency in

  DB2 SQL programming

  , query optimization, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
• Experience with

  CICS

  transactions and interactions (though optional); batch processing frameworks too.
• Comfortable using mainframe utilities: IEFBR14, SORT, ID CAMS, File-AID, expediter tools.
  
• Understanding of

  mainframe scheduling

  tools like ControlM.
• Working knowledge of

  CI/CD for mainframe

  , version control systems, and Agile processes.
• Excellent problemsolving, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and proactive communication skills.
