JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Director – HR , the DGM/GM – Human Resources shall develop and execute HR strategies that align with KNMA’s goals, overseeing all HR functions, and ensuring the effective management of the workforce. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES: The KNMA is seeking an experienced, strategic, and results-driven Director of Development to lead and grow the museum’s fundraising efforts. This leadership position is pivotal in advancing the museum’s mission by cultivating a strong culture of philanthropy and securing diverse streams of financial support. Reporting to the Museum’s Chief Executive Officer , the Director of Development will oversee all aspects of fundraising, including the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors (annual, major, and principal gifts), corporate partnerships, foundation grants, and sponsorships. The role also includes guiding strategy for donor engagement and overseeing the museum’s marketing, communications, membership, and volunteer programs to strengthen external visibility and community involvement. Key Job Responsibilities: (A) Fundraising Framework Development: (1) Develop, execute, and oversee a comprehensive fundraising strategy aimed at generating the revenue required to achieve the museum’s annual objectives, including both general operating support and long-term endowment growth. This multi-faceted plan will encompass, but is not limited to: Prospect research, membership development, annual appeals, foundation and corporate giving, grant acquisition, planned giving, and signature fundraising events. (2) Expand the museum’s donor base by conducting research, cultivating relationships, and implementing targeted strategies that align with the diverse interests of current and prospective supporters. (3) Research, write, and track grants to secure institutional funding and ensure compliance with grant requirements. (4) Maintain an accurate and efficient donor record-keeping system in coordination with the Development and Accounting teams. (5) Build and actively manage a portfolio of 50–75 major donors and institutional partners, securing multi-year commitments. (B) Cross Museum Collaboration : (1) Collaborate closely with the CEO to support and provide training for the Trustees’ Development and Marketing Committee. (2) Partner with the CEO, Board of Trustees, and Departmental Heads to establish and implement both annual and long-term fundraising goals, with a focus on operational needs, capital projects, and endowment growth. (3) Collaborate with museum staff and volunteers to engage, strengthen, and grow the museum’s support networks, community, and constituencies. (4) Work with Trustees and leadership to design and launch membership and patron programmes with curated benefits and recognition pathways. (C) Departmental Leadership Role: (1) Develop and manage the Development Department’s budget, ensuring accurate financial reporting and alignment with organizational goals. (2) Directly supervise the Membership Coordinator and Corporate Sponsorship and Stewardship Coordinator. (3) Undertake departmental supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES: Qualification (1) Applicants must be graduates from a premier Institute. (2) An advanced degree in finance, nonprofit management, the arts, or a related field is strongly preferred. Experience 15 to 18+ years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising, partnerships, or client acquisition roles is strongly preferred. Exceptional candidates with slightly fewer years, but with an outstanding track record in major donor or corporate acquisition, will also be considered. Skills and Competencies (1) Demonstrated success in cultivating and maintaining a wide-ranging and diverse donor base. (2) Strong track record in securing major gifts and writing successful grant proposals. (3) Knowledge of professional fundraising practices on a local, regional, and national level. (4) Ability to align communications, brand positioning, and media relations in service of fundraising outcomes and donor visibility. (5) Strong research and analytical abilities to interpret donor behavior and trends, applying insights to refine existing strategies and develop new initiatives. (6) Proven ability to engage with and influence HNI/ family office leaders, corporates at C-suite level, and foundation executives.
