Job Description

Role & responsibilities

Surveillance and Monitoring

  • Track hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) such as MRSA, C. diff, etc.
  • Monitor trends and patterns in infection rates.
  • Use data to predict and prevent outbreaks.

Policy & Procedure Development

  • Develop, implement, and update infection prevention policies.
  • Ensure policies comply with guidelines from CDC, WHO, OSHA, and local health authorities.
  • Collaborate with hospital administration to enforce standards.

Staff Education and Training

  • Train healthcare workers on infection control protocols: hand hygiene, PPE, sterilization, etc.
  • Provide orientation for new staff and continuous education for all.
  • Update teams about new infections or changes in best practices.

Outbreak Investigation and Response

  • Respond to infectious disease outbreaks quickly and efficiently.
  • Lead containment efforts (quarantine, isolation procedures).
  • Work with lab and diagnostic staff to identify sources.

Auditing and Compliance

  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of wards and departments.
  • Observe practices to ensure compliance with infection control guidelines.
  • Provide feedback and corrective action plans if needed.

Patient and Public Communication

  • Educate patients and families on infection risks and prevention.
  • Offer guidance for managing infections at home (especially after discharge).

Reporting and Documentation

  • Document infection cases and report them to public health authorities.
  • Maintain up-to-date infection control records.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for hospital leadership.

Coordination with External Bodies

  • Coordinate with public health departments and infection control agencies.
  • Participate in community health initiatives and awareness campaigns.

Preferred candidate profile

Education & Certification

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

    with a valid license.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) highly preferred.
  • Additional training in

    epidemiology

    ,

    microbiology

    , or

    public health

    is a plus.

Experience

  • 25+ years

    of nursing experience, preferably in:
    • Critical care
    • Emergency departments
    • Surgical or medical wards
  • 12+ years

    experience in infection prevention/control (ideal).
  • Familiarity with

    infection surveillance systems

    (e.g., NHSN).
