Job Description: Officer - EHS Position Title: EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) Location: SEZ Plant, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh Reports To: Plant Head / COO / Director – Operations Job Summary The EHS Officer is responsible for ensuring that all safety regulations, protocols, and statutory guidelines related to occupational health, fire prevention, hazardous chemical handling, and plant safety are effectively implemented and strictly followed at the biodiesel production facility located at the Visakhapatnam manufacturing plant. Key Responsibilities Ensure adherence to the Factories Act, OSHA, Petroleum Rules, and APPCB/State PCB guidelines along with applicable safety laws. Coordinate inspections and maintain liaison with Fire Services, Pollution Control Board, and Factories Inspectorate. Monitor and enforce safety protocols across biodiesel processing units and have knowledge of hazardous area classification, fire triangle, chemical compatibility, and flammable storage norms. Identify and mitigate hazards related to flammable liquids and hazardous chemicals. Develop, implement, and periodically update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safe handling of chemicals. Conduct fire risk assessments and ensure operational readiness of fire-fighting systems (foam systems, hydrants, extinguishers). Organize mock drills, prepare onsite emergency plans, and lead emergency response training. Deliver induction and periodic safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors. Perform safety audits, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA). Maintain detailed records, recommend improvements and lead investigations of accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions. Prepare and submit incident reports to management and statutory authorities. Maintain and update safety registers, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and permit-to-work systems. Compile and present monthly safety reports, compliance status, and risk analysis dashboards. Understanding of PPE requirements, LOTO, hot work permits and confined space safety. Qualifications Degree in occupational health and safety/ environmental science/ chemical/mechanical engineering. Diploma in Industrial Safety (recognized by State Technical Board or DGFASLI). 6–8 years of experience in EHS roles in chemical, oil & gas, biodiesel, or similar hazardous manufacturing plants. Working Conditions Primarily plant-based role with frequent field rounds Must be available for on-call duty in case of emergencies or shutdowns
