Role Overview: As a Health Unit Coordinator in the Orthopedic Med Surg department at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, you will be responsible for providing clerical and secretarial services to the nursing unit. The department specializes in Orthopedic Joint/Spine and Bariatrics, with a focus on fast turnover and excellent customer service for patients undergoing total joint surgeries. Key Responsibilities: - Perform clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer, and death. - Ensure STAT orders are brought to the attention of licensed nursing personnel. - Transcribe physicians" orders accurately and in a timely manner, and notify consults as ordered. - Requisition supplies, equipment, maintenance, and repair services, and keep unit stock and equipment inventories at appropriate levels. - Answer telephone and intercoms, relay and document messages, and ensure timely follow-up to patients" requests. - Assist physicians in obtaining reports from lab, radiology, etc. - Schedule patient tests, diagnostic procedures, and doctors" appointments as requested. - Organize patient charts in proper sequence, label and replenish necessary forms. - Obtain patient records from other facilities and manage patient flow if applicable. - Assure appropriate discharge disposition in electronic medical records. - Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards, complete required education assignments annually, and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested. - Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: - Minimum Education: None specified; preference may be given to individuals possessing a high school diploma or GED. - Minimum Experience: None required. - Licensure Requirement: None.
