HSE / Safety Head ( Oil & Gas Industry )

Job Description

We are looking for a highly experienced HSE Head to lead our Health Safety and Environment (HSE) initiatives at our Chennai location. The ideal candidate must be a Graduate in Engineering with a mandatory RLI (Regional Labour Institute) Certification and have 20+ years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry. This role requires expertise in HSE strategy development, compliance management, risk assessment and safety culture implementation. Key Responsibilities : Develop, implement and enforce HSE policies procedures and best practices in alignment with Oil & Gas industry standards. Ensure compliance with national and international safety regulations (OSHA, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, Factories Act etc.). Lead safety risk assessments, hazard identification and control measures to prevent workplace accidents and environmental hazards. Implement and oversee Permit to Work (PTR) systems for high-risk activities Conduct HSE audits, incident investigations and root cause analyses and implement corrective/preventive actions. Monitor environmental compliance including emissions control, waste management and sustainability initiatives. Develop and lead HSE training programs to enhance workforce awareness and compliance. Collaborate with senior management to establish emergency response plans disaster management protocols and crisis handling procedures. Engage with regulatory bodies and government authorities to ensure smooth compliance and licensing processes. Track and analyse HSE performance metrics to drive continuous improvement in safety standards. Key Skills & Requirements: Graduate in Engineering (Mandatory) RLI Certification (Regional Labour Institute) - Mandatory 20+ years of experience in HSE management within the Oil & Gas sector Expertise in safety audits risk assessments, compliance laws and emergency response planning Strong knowledge of industrial safety regulations, hazardous material handling and environmental protection laws Excellent leadership, problem-solving and crisis management skills Ability to develop and conduct safety training programs for employees and contractors Proficiency in handling incident investigations and root cause analysis (RCA) Strong communication and stakeholder management skills Familiarity with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) Educational Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Any Discipline) - Mandatory RLI Certification (Regional Labour Institute) - Mandatory Additional certifications such as NEBOSH CSP, OSHA or ISO Lead Auditor will be an advantage.
