About the Role: We are seeking a strategic and technically adept Head of Engineering to lead our engineering team in delivering world-class eCommerce solutions. This role requires a seasoned leader with a strong background in service-based delivery models, hands-on experience in Shopify, WooCommerce, and other eCommerce platforms, and a sharp focus on eCommerce strategy, scalability, and performance. You will be responsible for shaping our engineering vision, mentoring the tech team, driving high-quality client delivery, and aligning tech execution with business growth and eCommerce trends. Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Strategy Define and implement the technical roadmap aligned with business objectives and eCommerce trends. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, Marketing, Client Services) to drive strategic initiatives. Lead engineering delivery for custom eCommerce projects, integrations, and platform migrations. Ensure consistent adherence to high standards of quality, scalability, and performance. Engineering Management Manage and mentor a team of frontend, backend, and full-stack developers. Oversee sprint planning, code reviews, and DevOps pipelines. Cultivate a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Client & Project Oversight Work closely with clients to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Provide technical consultation during the pitch meetings when required. Ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of client projects. Technical Excellence Maintain deep expertise in eCommerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, WooCommerce, etc..), APIs, payment gateways, and performance optimization. Stay ahead of emerging technologies and trends in eCommerce and recommend adoption where relevant. Enforce best practices in security, architecture, and code quality. Requirements: Proven experience leading engineering teams in a service-based agency or consultancy environment. Strong background in building and scaling eCommerce platforms (Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.). Hands-on experience with modern tech stacks: JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue), PHP, Node.js, REST APIs, and cloud infrastructure (AWS). Experience managing remote teams. Deep understanding of the eCommerce funnel, conversion optimization, and performance metrics. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to translate business strategy into actionable engineering plans. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with headless commerce architectures (e.g., using Shopify Hydrogen, Next.js, or similar). Familiarity with ERP and CRM integrations. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in the Shopify ecosystem, full-stack development capabilities, and a proven track record of leading projects from conception to launch. You will be responsible for architecting technical solutions, mentoring developers, and ensuring the delivery of robust, high-quality code that meets our clients' complex business needs. Key Responsibilities: Technical Leadership & Strategy: Lead the technical direction for multiple Shopify Plus projects, evaluating and adopting new technologies to enhance development processes and product capabilities. Create and enforce development standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure code quality and system maintainability. Guide technical decision-making processes, including architecture reviews and technology selection. Development & Execution: Develop custom, scalable Shopify themes from scratch using Liquid, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and React/Next.js. Build and integrate complex backend functionalities using Node.js, Express.js, PHP or any of server-side language. Engineer custom solutions to overcome platform limitations. Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and third-party services (Klaviyo, Recharge, Stay AI, etc.). Performance & Optimization: Optimize application performance through debugging, refactoring, and implementing best practices. Oversee the deployment of web applications from development to production environments (AWS, Firebase). Qualifications: Experience: 6+ years of experience in web development, with at least 4+ years specializing in the Shopify ecosystem (Shopify Plus experience is a must). Technical Skills: Expert in Shopify theme development: Liquid, Theme Customizer, Metaobjects, Metafields. Expert in front-end technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), jQuery. Strong experience with modern JS frameworks: React, Redux Toolkit, Next.js, or Remix.js. Strong back-end proficiency: Node.js, Express.js, and/or PHP. Experience with database management: MySQL or MongoDB. Proven experience building and integrating with APIs (REST, GraphQL) and webhooks. Experience with cloud services (AWS Lambda, S3, EC2) and serverless functions. Proficient with version control (Git). Other Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills.
