Job Description

The OPD Pharmacy Staff is responsible for dispensing prescribed medications to outpatients, counselling patients on proper medicine usage, maintaining pharmacy inventory, ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory standards, and delivering quality service to enhance patient care.

Role & responsibilities

Receive and verify prescriptions from OPD doctors.
Check medication dosage, formulation, and potential drug interactions before dispensing.
Accurately dispense medications with proper labelling (dosage, timing, and precautions).
Provide patient counselling on medicine usage, side effects, and storage.
Provide courteous and prompt service to patients and attendants.
Handle billing and cash collection accurately.
Clarify prescription queries with doctors when required.
Maintain adequate stock levels for OPD medicines.
Check expiry dates regularly and remove near-expiry or expired stock as per SOP.
Assist in ordering and replenishing stock through the hospital purchase system.
Follow hospital infection control and safety protocols.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy counter and storage areas.
Coordinate with inpatient pharmacy, purchase department, and suppliers for timely stock replenishment.
Participate in pharmacy audits and quality improvement initiatives.
