Role of Sewage Treatment Plant Operator1. Operation & MonitoringOperate pumps, blowers, mixers, valves, and other equipment. Monitor inflow and outflow of sewage. Ensure all treatment processes (Screening, Grit Removal, Aeration, Clarification, Filtration, Disinfection, Sludge Handling) are working properly. Maintain daily records of flow, power consumption, and treated water quality. 2. Water Quality TestingCollect and test water samples at different stages. Measure parameters like pH, BOD, COD, TSS, DO, Turbidity, MLSS, Residual Chlorine, etc. Report abnormal results immediately. 3. Routine MaintenanceCheck and lubricate pumps, motors, blowers, and other machinery. Clean screens, filters, and tanks as required. Identify and report breakdowns to the engineer/site in-charge. Support preventive maintenance activities. 4. Compliance & SafetyEnsure operation as per Pollution Control Board norms. Proper handling of sludge and chemicals (chlorine, alum, PAC, etc.). Follow safety protocols (PPE, confined space entry, electrical safety). Maintain logbooks and statutory compliance records. 5. Housekeeping & ReportingMaintain cleanliness of plant area, tanks, and surroundings. Record daily operational data in logbooks or computer systems. Submit reports to engineers/site in-charge regularly. Key Skills RequiredBasic knowledge of mechanical & electrical equipment. Ability to read gauges, meters, and testing instruments. Understanding of biological & chemical treatment processes. Problem-solving and quick response to breakdowns. Safety awareness and discipline.
