Job Description

Job Title: Director / Manager Health Information Management (HIM) or Medical Coding

Location:

Director/ Manager – HIM & Medical Coding

Key Responsibilities:

Lead overall
HIM coding operations
(IP & OP) with accountability for accuracy, compliance, and turnaround.
Oversee
clinical documentation improvement (CDI)
processes and partner with CDI Liaisons.
Manage large, multi-level teams (Managers, Coding Coordinators, CDI staff).
Monitor production, quality, unbilled accounts, coding delays, and SLA adherence.
Drive
process improvements
, automation, workflow optimization and cost efficiency.
Ensure regulatory compliance: ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, HCPCS, MS-DRG.
Lead performance reviews, training, education, and competency development.
Partner with Billing, Operations, Document Imaging, and Facility HIM teams on A/R and documentation quality.
Analyze trends: CMI, coding quality, data discrepancies; implement corrective actions.
Support budgeting, staffing, and strategic planning for HIM operations.

Requirements:

8+ years
of recent acute-care
inpatient & outpatient coding
experience.
5+ years
in healthcare leadership (managing large coding teams).
Strong knowledge of
ICD-10, CPT, DRG, coding quality, unbilled/DNFB
management.
Expertise in HIM processes, CDI, audits, and compliance standards.
Certifications:
CCS / RHIA / RHIT
(mandatory).
Excellent people leadership, analytics, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred:

Experience in
shared services / HSC / RCM transformations
.
Exposure to process reengineering, automation, and coding technology tools.
