Role Overview
As General Manager, Communications, you will build and lead SMGCs communications engine, helping to craft narratives, shape brand identity, and drive visibility across India and globally. You will translate SMGCs vision into compelling stories that mobilise partners, donors, policymakers, and communities. This role is both strategic and hands-on: leading brand positioning, media engagement, digital storytelling, and crisis communication, while ensuring all communications advance SMGCs mission and fundraising goals.
What You&aposll Lead
1.Brand & Strategy
- Develop and execute a 3-year communications strategy aligned to Ignite, Impact, and Inspire.
- Position SMGC and its leadership as global thought leaders in Compassionate Leadership.
- Ensure consistency of brand identity across all channels and partnerships.
2.Storytelling & Content
- Oversee the production of high-quality, multi-format content, including reports, films, social media, op-eds, speeches, and impact stories.
- Lead the narrative design for global convenings, summits, and fellowships.
- Build a repository of compelling stories from communities, fellows, and youth leaders that demonstrate measurable change.
3.Digital Media & Advocacy
- Cultivate strong relationships with national and international media.
- Drive digital campaigns, thought-leadership pieces, and advocacy initiatives that expand reach and engagement.
- Ensure real-time, data-driven monitoring of digital and media impact, refining strategy based on analytics.
- Oversee crisis communications protocols to protect and strengthen SMGCs reputation.
4.Fundraising & Stakeholder Support
- Partner with the Fundraising team to craft donor-facing materials, including investment decks, impact reports, and campaign collateral.
- Support Strategic Initiatives and the CEO office with Board reports, speeches, and presentations.
- Shape messaging for multilateral, corporate, and government engagements.
5.Team,Systems & Governance
- Build and lead a high-performing communications team, including PR, digital, design, and content.
- Establish SOPs for content creation, brand governance, and media engagement.
- Uphold child safeguarding, ethical communication, and data privacy standards.
What Success Looks Like
By Day 90
- Approved communications strategy and calendar.
- Key brand assets (tone, templates, messaging guide) standardised.
- Strong media pipeline, with at least 10 priority journalists/outlets engaged.
By Day 180
- SMGC featured in tier-1 national and international outlets.
- Digital footprint (followers, impressions, engagement) shows measurable growth.
- Donor/partner-facing content (reports, decks, videos) refreshed and rolled out.
Annual KPIs
- Media coverage: ?30 tier-1 placements/year.

Qualifications
- Masters degree in Communications, Media, Marketing, or related field.
- 1012 years of experience in communications, PR, or advocacy in a global, high-impact environment.
- Proven record in leading media strategy, digital campaigns, and thought-leadership positioning.
- Experience crafting narratives for fundraising, policy, or social impact campaigns.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with strong visual/design sensibility.
- Strong understanding of media ecosystems, digital analytics, and reputation management.
- Exposure to multicultural and multi-stakeholder environments.
