Job Description

Responsibilities:

In-Process Quality Control and Assurance:

1. Perform B Zone inspections including visual, dimensional, and basic metallographic checks on cells, modules, and components.

2. Conduct teardown activities following standard procedures to identify internal defects, assembly issues, or material failures.

3. Prepare metallographic samples (cutting, mounting, polishing, etching) for microstructural analysis under microscope.

4. Record and document all inspection findings accurately in the designated formats and report any deviations immediately.

5. Support root cause analysis activities by providing detailed teardown and metallographic evidence.

6. Ensure proper handling, maintenance, and calibration of teardown tools, microscopes, and metallography equipment.

7. Follow safety standards, 5S practices, and work instructions while performing all activities in lab and production areas.

8. Communicate inspection results clearly to IPQC Engineers and Production/Process teams for timely action.

9. Assist in training new technicians on teardown and metallography basic techniques when required.

PERSON PROFILE

The IPQC B Zone and Teardown Technician is responsible for performing in-process inspections, teardown evaluations, and metallographic sample preparations to ensure the quality and reliability of battery cells during manufacturing. This role is critical in identifying material or process issues early, supporting quality improvements, and maintaining high inspection standards in B Zone operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Diploma in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3-6 years of experience in quality control, preferably in battery manufacturing, automotive, or precision manufacturing industries.
  • Strong understanding of metallography techniques, teardown analysis, and material inspection methods.
  • Knowledge of in-process quality control (IPQC) systems and manufacturing process flows.
  • Familiarity with quality standards like ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and applicable ASTM methods for metallographic analysis.
  • Experience in using microscopes, hardness testers, sample preparation equipment, and teardown tools.

Skills:

  • Strong technical skills in metallography, failure analysis, and in-process inspection.
  • Good understanding of root cause analysis (RCA), problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5-Why).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, quality standards, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and basic quality management systems (QMS) software.
  • Excellent team leadership, planning, and time management skills.
  • Good communication skills for coordinating between production, engineering, and quality departments.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks based on critical deliverables.
  • Attention to detail with a strong focus on data accuracy and defect identification.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and discipline within the lab and shop floor.
