Job Description Undertake assessment of existing bridges and preparing assessment reports having assessment/design experience in Steel Composite, Pretension / Posttension structures Carry out feasibility studies for strengthening and repair. We have multiple vacancies with our Design office at Kolkata Position summary Role -- Civil & Structural Engineer Industry -- Steel, Power & Material Handling Industry Experience -- 5-12 yrs Job Location -- Kolkata Overview: A Civil/Structural Engineer in the Steel, Power, and Material Handling Industry is responsible for designing Steel and Concrete structures, foundations, and support systems for industrial facilities. This includes heavy equipment foundations, process buildings, conveyor galleries, transfer houses, pipe/cable bridges, sheds, silos, storage tanks, roads and drainage systems. The role ensures structural integrity, safety, and compliance with industry standards. Key Responsibilities: 1. Structural and Civil Design: Design steel, concrete, and composite structures for industrial plants/non-plants and material handling systems. Perform load calculations, stress analysis, geotechnical assessments and stability checks for equipment/machine foundations, conveyor galleries, transfer houses, storage bunkers, high-rise steel and concrete structures. Utilize Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for design validation. Optimize design solutions to minimize costs while maintaining safety and reliability. 2. Equipment & Infrastructure Support: Design support structures for cranes, hoists, conveyors, crushers, storage bins, silos, and power plant equipment. Analyse vibrations and dynamic loads from rotating and heavy machinery to ensure foundation stability and design of static and dynamic foundations. Assess and optimize existing structures for load-bearing capacity and longevity. 3. Compliance & Safety Standards: Ensure designs meet IS, AISC, ASCE, Eurocodes, OSHA, and other industry regulations. Perform seismic analysis and wind load assessments for industrial structures. Conduct risk assessments to prevent structural failures and workplace hazards. 4. Project Execution & Coordination: Collaborate with mechanical, utility and electrical engineers for integrated plant designs. Work with contractors and vendors for fabrication, erection, and installation of structures and provide technical supports. Review construction drawings, shop drawings, and site execution plans. Conduct site inspections and structural audits to ensure adherence to designs. Resolving site queries. 5. Maintenance & Structural Integrity Assessment: Evaluate structural deterioration, corrosion, and fatigue in existing plants. Recommend repair, retrofitting, and reinforcement strategies. Develop predictive maintenance plans to extend asset lifespan. Required Skills & Qualifications: Education: Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. A Masters degree or certification is preferred. Additional certifications in Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Analysis, or Project Management are a plus. Experience: 5-12 years of experience in industrial structural design for steel plants, power plants, or material handling systems. Technical Knowledge: Structural steel and concrete design for industrial facilities including equipment foundations, roads, drainage, retaining walls. Experience in designing of steel or RCC Silos, Bunkers, Wagon Tipplers, Track Hoppers, Overhead water tanks of large capacity are preferred. Foundation engineering for heavy loads and dynamic forces. Geotechnical engineering (soil testing, pile design, slope stability). Water management systems (drainage, sewage, effluent treatment). Software proficiency: STAAD.Pro for design and modelling. Overview of other software like Tekla Structures, ANSYS, SAP2000, ETABS, AutoCAD, and Revit are preferred. Knowledge of seismic, wind, and vibration analysis techniques. Welding, bolted and riveted connections for industrial applications. Experience working in Area Grading, Road layout, drainage layout in plants especially in Hilly terrain. Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work in cross-functional teams. Effective project management and communication skills. Work Environment: Industrial sites, steel plants, power plants, and mining operations. Exposure to heavy machinery, dust, and outdoor conditions.
