As an Engineering Manager at Agoda, you will play a crucial role in leading one or more engineering teams by combining technical excellence with strong leadership skills. Here is a breakdown of what to expect in this role: Role Overview: In Agoda's Back End Engineering department, you will be responsible for building scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs that drive core business logic. This involves working on mission-critical systems related to inventory, pricing, customer data, booking systems, and more. With a focus on CI/CD and testing techniques, you will ensure smooth operations with dozens of releases per day. Your role will also involve full stack engineering, people development, and staying abreast of industry trends. Key Responsibilities: - Be hands-on: Write and review code, provide expert coaching, and guidance to engineers. - Love of engineering: Passion for building scalable solutions and keeping up with industry trends. - Full stack engineering: Solid experience across the entire technology stack. - Developing people: Inspire and develop team members to reach their full potential. - Proficiency in programming languages: Java, Scala, or C#. - Systems architecture: Experience in designing complex, scalable, and fault-tolerant distributed systems. - DevOps culture: Embrace agility, leanness, automation, and CI/CD practices. - Application security: Understanding of application security principles. - Agile development: Prior experience working in successful agile teams. - Leadership: Lead engineering teams with 5+ direct reports autonomously. - Data-driven decision making: Utilize data for making informed decisions. Qualifications Required: - Extremely proficient in at least 1 programming language (Java, Scala, C#) - Strong experience in systems architecture - Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility - Proficient in lower level engineering concepts - DevOps culture knowledge - Good understanding of application security - Passion for technology and the Internet - Experience in running engineering teams with 5+ direct reports - Ability to operate autonomously with a strong sense of ownership - Data-driven decision-making skills Additional Details: The position is based in Gurugram, India, with a relocation package provided.
