Engineer

1. Key Responsibilities

A. Tooling Maintenance & Management

• Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of press tools, dies.

• Conduct tool refurbishment, sharpening, alignment, and assembly/re-assembly as required.

• Ensure all tools meet dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and functional requirements.

• Maintain tool life records and ensure timely tool replacement or reconditioning.

B. Production Support

• Provide on-line support to press shop.

• Ensure minimum downtime by responding quickly to tool failures or defects.

• Assist production in tool setup, tool changeover, and adjustments for new batches.

C. New Tool Development & Trials

• Collaborate with design and manufacturing for new die.

• Conduct tool trials and support the PPAP process.

• Validate new tooling for accuracy, durability, and performance.

D. Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities for tool performance improvement, cost reduction, and productivity enhancement.

• Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for recurring tool failures.

• Optimize tool maintenance schedules and standardize tool repair procedures.

E. Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare and maintain documentation such as:

• Tool history cards

• Maintenance logs

• Breakdown reports

• Calibration records

• Tool inventory and storage status

• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and 5S standards in the tool room.

2. Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of sheet metal press tools, progressive dies, compound dies, and transfer tools.

• Hands-on experience with tool room machines:

• Surface grinder

• Lathe

• Milling machine

• EDM / wire-cut (preferred)

• Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and tool assembly drawings.

• Knowledge of material grades used for tool steels (D2, D3, HCHCr, etc.).

Soft Skills

• Problem-solving and analytical thinking

• Strong communication and coordination with production teams

• Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities

• Good documentation and organizational skills

3. Education & Experience

• Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Engineering, or Production Engineering.

• 37 years experience in tool room operations within press shop and/or roll-forming lines.Role & responsibilities
