EMBEDDED SYSTEMS ENGINEER (FREELANCE/CONTRACT)

• Are you an experienced embedded systems engineer passionate about aviation and looking for a new challengeSpectrum is seeking a talented individual to develop a new, innovative hardware product for the General Aviation market
• This is a unique opportunity to lead the end-to-end development of a crucial bridging device that will enhance the pilot experience in the cockpit
• This is a freelance or contract position with the potential for long-term collaboration on future projects
• Responsibilities:Youll be responsible for the full lifecycle development of our new hardware product
• This includes:Hardware and Software Design: Translating our Software Requirement Specification (SRS) into a functional product, focusing on robust and reliable embedded C/C++ software
• Audio System Development: Implementing a complex audio management system, including signal detection, mixing, prioritization, and playback
• Connectivity: Developing and managing wireless communication protocols (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) for seamless integration with our existing product line and external devices
• Data Integration: Handling data from various aircraft systems, such as GPS and landing gear status, to trigger specific functions
• Power and Safety: Designing a power management system that ensures efficient operation and a failsafe audio path for critical communications
• Firmware: Developing firmware that supports remote updates, diagnostics, and secure wireless connections
• Prototyping and Testing: Building and testing prototypes to ensure the final product meets all performance, reliability, and safety requirements

Technical Skills & Qualifications

• Embedded Systems: Proven experience in embedded software development using C/C++ on microcontroller platforms
• Wireless Protocols: Deep understanding and hands-on experience with Wi-Fi (client and access point modes) and Bluetooth
• Experience with the ESP32-S3 platform is a significant advantage
• Audio Processing: Experience with digital audio, including managing multiple audio streams, mixing, and digital-to-analog conversion (DACs)
• Hardware Interfaces: Strong knowledge of standard communication protocols like RS232 and GPIO
• Aviation Electronics: Familiarity with aviation standards and the unique challenges of cockpit environments is highly desirable
• Attention to Detail: The ability to translate detailed technical specifications into a functional and reliable product is crucial
